Phase 1

Here is the material I gave to the judges during phase 1.

Answer to Creative Question:

Dear judges… Here is my answer to the creative question. Our team have decided to simulate how our robot will pass through the obstacles.

We decided to make the landscape using clay. The landscape is divided into start zone, high ridge area, mission zone. The goal of this robot is to rescue an astronaut and discover water

The robot starts at the start zone. Here craters and bumps will be scattered randomly to throw the robot off track. The robot crosses these obstacles and reaches the high ridge area.

The high ridge area is divided to 3 obstacles: -The satellite structures -The earthquake zone -The meteor showers. The robot ascends the ramp to reach the high ridge area.

At the start it will find pieces of artificial satellites (Lego models.) The robot avoids these pieces and then the robot reaches the earth quake region.

This small area is totally made up of (Lego building blocks). The blocks are attached to a horizontal motor which moves quickly from side to side to stimulate an earthquake.

The robot overcomes this obstacle.

Finally the robot reaches the meteor shower. At reaching an ultra sonic sensor detects its presence. This causes a motor attached to eight pulleys at the end of the landscape move. The pulleys are attached to threads which are in turn attached to meteors (red Lego building blocks). The thread moves forward causing the blocks to move. The blocks on each pulley are attached at different parts. The robot carefully avoids these meteors. The thread extends through the entire course.

HENCE MY ROBOT CROSSES METEORS AND EARTHQUAKES. After overcoming this obstacle the robot comes down the ramp and reaches the mission area.

Over here there will be a small circular canal filled withwater and a stranded astronaut at the part enclosed by the circular canal. The robot crosses the water flow and carefully handles the astronaut (Lego figure). The robot then collects water from the other side of the canal (through a glass which the robot has been catching all along). The robot returns these items to the starting base. THUS MY ROBOT BECOMES THE FIRST EVER ROBOT TO DISCOVER WATER ON THE MOON :-the scaling of the landscape is yet to be decided .

Answer To Outreach Question
Dear judges… Here is my answer to the outreach question. I and my team decided to showcase our project at Birla planetarium.

This planetarium is situated in Hyderabad. It is known as one of the best attended planetariums in the world.

To write this article I decided to conduct a survey among my friends. I asked my classmates to rate the planetarium from * to *****. The average I got was about ****.FROM THIS YOU CAN FIND OUT

HOW POPULAR THIUS PLANETARIUM IS.

The Birla planetarium consists of a huge telescope and a stars show. In the star show there is a circular room where pictures seen by the telescope is projected all around us. People from all over our state come here to watch the star show.

This is the place where I bought my first telescope.

Birla planetarium even consists of a science museum with models of the moon , sun and various galaxies. It even has animations of robots that go to space. Many people like the telescope in the Birla planetarium. The star show is one of the crowd attracters. The Birla planetarium is crowded everyday.

I decided to show my performance here and thus introduce children to robotics. I want to help promote robotics in India. I am sure that from next year many people will start participating in robotic challenges.

Birla planetarium is the place where I got the inspiration to become an astronaut. THIS PASSION LED ME TO THE WONDERFUL SUBJECT OF ROBOTICS. Thus I decided to show my performance here…

Dear Shashank,

I think the picture of the planetarium you've posted is of the one located at Kolkata. Not Hyderabad
